Dean Chang

Dean Chang is responsible for all legal and operational matters for Calmwater Capital in the underwriting and management of its real estate debt portfolio. Dean serves as the firm’s General Counsel and is a member of its Investment Committee. Prior to joining Calmwater, Dean was Senior Director of Acquisitions and Legal Affairs at CityView, a Los Angeles based real estate fund manager where he advised senior management on a portfolio of over $2B in real estate development projects nationwide. Dean started his real estate career as an associate at the law firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP where he represented lenders and institutional investors in commercial real estate transactions. Dean received his B.S. in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley and his J.D. from UCLA School of Law, where he graduated Order of the Coif and was an editor of the UCLA Law Review. Dean also clerked for the Honorable Judge Ronald S.W. Lew of the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
